Idaho- City of Rocks

The closer we came to exiting Utah, the more green the mountains became and the more vegetation grew so, by the time we entered Idaho it was not as big a change as it might have been. Still, Idaho, at least the southern part we saw, is a very green, lush area. We drove off the interstate into a remote area to visit the City of Rocks and stayed in a state park near it. The City of Rocks is an area named by the pioneers. After crossing thousands of miles of prairie, they suddenly arrived at an area filled with rocks hundreds of feet high. It's quite a site finding yourself suddenly within these formations and the vista is incredible. Apparently it brings rock climbers from all over the world to try climbing. We took a quick look and headed to the state park hoping to find a site (the state park had water and showers, the City of Rocks campground only vault toilets and no water). We found a site alright. Of the 35 or so sites only 1 other one was taken. This state park had no ranger, no on site host and was perhaps 20 miles from the nearest town. So, it was us and the other camper -- all alone. A bit unsettling. But, the state park had awesome sites and the price was $21. At night, the absence of any lights made the stars pop like we hadn't seen in years. The next day we took a quite extensive tour of the rocks and surrounding areas, watched climbers and enjoyed the area.
